What stands out for me here is the need for transparency in relationships. After all, (“Love is its own protection“). This combined with the requirement to take full responsibility for my own part in what is happening between us.
I am aware of a strong desire to ‘give myself up’ to love, and to the other person, with the fear that I may be immolated in the process. “I keep my love hidden like a flickering candle within my heart, for fear its fire will consume us both.”
On one hand I have an unrealistic and romantic view of relationship, and on the other a childhood fear that I am really unloveable. But the book says: “and now, how much will you love, and now….?” This is strong, adult material!
